Haast-Hollyford Road Social Studies (From A Different Perspective Than What I Think)
The debate has been going on for a while now, whether to put a road straight through Haast down to Milford Sound or not. I believe that if we do build a road through Haast, Haast will turn into a ghost town. There will be accommodation at a bigger place, only a few k’s down the road. So people are most likely to keep on their travels onto Milford Sound. Which will reduce the number of people stopping, and will make motel owners income lower. Also, the time could be a good thing or a bad thing. If you want to see loads of scenery, but travel more, or see one great tourist and travel less. Plus the road will cost a BOMB. It started out being 3 million dollars, then its increased up into the billions. Would you really want that for a road? Or would it be better to spend that money on something fun? Like an amusement park, or a mall and still, have money left from that 2 billion dollars? And what happens if you, have a helicopter, and you are flying people into Haast. Then you go to land in your landing spot, and then there is just a road there? I think that we should use the 2 billion dollars on something more enjoyable rather than a plain road.
